A tribute to Dr. L. Y. Longchar

8/12/17  (A speech delivered in the program held inside the Department of Agricultural Extension, SASRD, Nagaland University).          I would first like to thank my classmates for putting their trust in me. They’ve always been so kind since the very first day. Thank you, friends, for giving me the opportunity to give respect to Late Dr. L.Y. Longchar.       He was our course-in-charge for only a single semester. So, I won’t have much to say about him today. We used to call him ‘The man who doesn’t smile’ because we never saw him smile; but only once. We came to realize later that that was not his true nature. He was always so open, kind, and friendly to whoever approached him in his chamber.         During the orientation for our RAWE program, Sir Longchar highlighted manners and etiquette – the way we should behave, what to say, what not to do. He told us to either use ‘tui’ or ‘apni’ instead of ‘toi’. He also warned us to never use the ‘L’ word with the villagers. Long story shor

The Road to Forest Ranger (Range Officer)

It took me almost an entire year to come back with the promise I made long back. The following are some of the important points I think you’d like to go through if you’re an aspirant for any upcoming examination. (This can be a comprehensive extract from the post I made in Mizo language previously). (If you’d like to know what questions they asked me in the interview or what topics/books I concentrated on, or how I planned out my study routine, or if you have any other queries, feel free) Books studied - I always wanted to be a writer. Not a conventional writer, but a unique one…one that ladles out all deeply ingrained truths that have been vested upon by some other interests. I thought my first book would be – the road to success of the toppers of School Board exams, State Service and Central Service, etc. Their days of glory are usually short-spanned among the crowd. The mountains they climb are normally unheard of. I really wanted to bring the struggles (and strategies) of th

Copy to: All my family members and friends who asked me to wrap up my thesis work saying I only need a couple of weeks to compile. I appreciate your concern.         If I had to pen-down three things I’d like to accomplish before I take my last gasp, this would certainly have its place – “To share (not any stuff that has the potential to damage the feeling of anyone) all the things I've learned to the world”.         I used to compose so many things inside my head as a young boy. One of them has always been-" I want to be remembered as a Christian, a man, a Mizo and a fan of Arsenal FC. I know that I have miserably failed to live up to the standard of these. But, even if I were to sin a million times every day, I believe I should not drag down anyone else with me. Want  to drink? – Don't cause mayhem Want to party? – Do so in closed doors Try to be embroiled in fornication? – Do so so as not to bring shame to your religion, your family and your commu

It’s my birthday And I don’t deserve you, beautiful people. I write in English (posts, statuses, etc.) as much as possible because of you, my non-Mizo-speaking friends. I know I can convey things much clearer in my own language, but I'm mentioning this for the umpteenth time, I will not leave you guys alone.) (I tried, but couldn't comment on all the pics. Hope you understand....The time now is 12:11am)  As expected, my phone rang exactly at 12:00 am. I got my first birthday wish.           - My elder sis called.  - A friend (who is very dear to me, who looks up to me as her big brother. And I think highly of her too) called me. I had to hang up to attend a meeting at The DC Office. The birthday message she conveyed was too sweet to be true. Thank you. - Another friend called me to enquire about one of the professors. She wished me a Happy Birthday before hanging up.         These are the birthday calls I received. My girl surprised me w
