We were asked to be done with breakfast, lunch-packing and be ready to depart by 7:45 am. I went down to the mess hall at around 7:20 am after waiting for some time in my room. Breakfast was not ready by then, as usual. But it’s okay. We are not the ones cooking here. We don’t know what they are going through. So, let us go with the flow, yet again. Two buses were arranged for the trainees. We went to the smaller bus as it was more spacious than the other one. Later it turned out that all the seats were occupied by males, by non-Tamils except Mr. Gokul. Groupism is something which everyone here in the campus is afraid for its existence. So, I guess it is safe to say that this bus incident was utter coincidental. I sat in the last of the seats with Mr. Aminul Islam of Assam and Mr. Marcellas Hunlawmawma of Mizoram. In the front sat another good friend of mine – Mr. Kabin Kumar Bora. The picture above brought me back to my B.Sc. days. But the setting was totally opposite. I...

A tribute to Dr. L. Y. Longchar

8/12/17  (A speech delivered in the program held inside the Department of Agricultural Extension, SASRD, Nagaland University).          I would first like to thank my classmates for putting their trust in me. They’ve always been so kind since the very first day. Thank you, friends, for giving me the opportunity to give respect to Late Dr. L.Y. Longchar.       He was our course-in-charge for only a single semester. So, I won’t have much to say about him today. We used to call him ‘The man who doesn’t smile’ because we never saw him smile; but only once. We came to realize later that that was not his true nature. He was always so open, kind, and friendly to whoever approached him in his chamber.         During the orientation for our RAWE program, Sir Longchar highlighted manners and etiquette – the way we should behave, what to say, what not to do. He told us to either use ‘tui’ or ‘apni’ instead of ‘toi’. He also...

The Road to Forest Ranger (Range Officer)

It took me almost an entire year to come back with the promise I made long back. The following are some of the important points I think you’d like to go through if you’re an aspirant for any upcoming examination. (This can be a comprehensive extract from the post I made in Mizo language previously). (If you’d like to know what questions they asked me in the interview or what topics/books I concentrated on, or how I planned out my study routine, or if you have any other queries, feel free) Books studied - I always wanted to be a writer. Not a conventional writer, but a unique one…one that ladles out all deeply ingrained truths that have been vested upon by some other interests. I thought my first book would be – the road to success of the toppers of School Board exams, State Service and Central Service, etc. Their days of glory are usually short-spanned among the crowd. The mountains they climb are normally unheard of. I really wanted to bring the struggles (and strategies) of th...

That’s not what I sought – Farewell, Master of Science (Agriculture)

Copy to: All my family members and friends who asked me to wrap up my thesis work saying I only need a couple of weeks to compile. I appreciate your concern.         If I had to pen-down three things I’d like to accomplish before I take my last gasp, this would certainly have its place – “To share (not any stuff that has the potential to damage the feeling of anyone) all the things I've learned to the world”.         I used to compose so many things inside my head as a young boy. One of them has always been-" I want to be remembered as a Christian, a man, a Mizo and a fan of Arsenal FC. I know that I have miserably failed to live up to the standard of these. But, even if I were to sin a million times every day, I believe I should not drag down anyone else with me. Want  to drink? – Don't cause mayhem Want to party? – Do so in closed doors Try to be embroiled in fornicati...
